Blackpool Aquatics competed at the Wigan B.E.S.T open meet this weekend. Swimmers from all groups took part with outstanding success.

I am very, very proud to see our club standing out once again within the region. This was a quality open meet, & we were shoulder to shoulder with large programs & performance squads. Swimmers conducted themselves extremely well, showing a strong team spirit throughout the weekend. It was excellent to see the new ‘BA’ logo hat standing out in prominent positions in most heats, in 95% of the events.

It is truly a testament to the new work ethic that the swimmers are enjoying that is now leading to the unprecedented ‘personal best’ haul at this meet. Competitive skill levels and race strategies’ were used well and professional attitudes to races contributed to swimmers success.

Approximately 30 athletes swam over the weekend, which led to a vibrant and exciting atmosphere at every session over the three days. This is a vital characteristic at multi day meets to lift spirits & raise motivation by swimmers supporting swimmers. It was great to see team mates congratulating each other’s successes and the support structure working throughout the age ranges.

I am very pleased to see that the majority of swims at the weekend showed the ability to “back end” race’s. This is an important physical skill to perfect and we have been developing speed & speed endurance regularly within working weeks in conjunction with the development of the aerobic system to equip ourselves well going in to the new season. The ability to negative split (increase speed during second half of a race) is an important race skill and the work done by our swimmers is starting to pay off. Most race splits demonstrated the ability to “back end” & be very competitive during the later parts of races.

All swimmers looked fast, swam fast & really importantly thought fast!! Better warm up’s & swim downs meant that they had the ability to multi event, back to back with success. We had great swims across the board, junior to youth and speed based events to aerobic heavy events. This is really pleasing and gives important feedback as coaches; we are definitely moving in the right direction!
I would like to congratulate every swimmer that took part over the weekend; there is no better feeling as a coach than to witness your athletes thoroughly enjoying the rewards for their efforts.

Thank you also to all the coaching staff that over the past few months have contributed to this fabulous achievement.
Feel proud of yourselves and keep working stronger & harder.

North Lancs

The North Lancashire swimming competition held at Palatine Pool recently resulted in over 120 individual personal bests for Blackpool Aquatics swimmers.

16 swimming clubs from around the North Lancashire area were present at this event with 44 swimmers representing Blackpool Aquatics.

From our pool of 44 swimmers, 13 claimed a podium position (top 3) at least once and a further 11 finished in the top 8.  147 Lancashire County qualifying times and 45 North West Regional qualifying times were gained.

We wish our swimmers well as they continue to train as many of them will go on to represent Blackpool Aquatics in the forthcoming Lancashire County Championships and the North West Regional competition held later in the season.

The event finished on a high with the squadron relays consisting of both freestyle and medley events.  Blackpool Aquatics entered numerous teams in all categories/age groups.  Our podium events were the 12 and under girls Medley and Freestyle finishing 3rd in both races; the girl’s 13/14 year age group came 2nd in the Medley and 3rd in the Freestyle.  Meanwhile, the ladies open saw 2nd place in the Medley and 3rd in the Freestyle with the Gents Open age claiming 2nd place in the Medley.  A fantastic way to end the competition.

Our Micro and Swim League Teams have made a promising start to the season and we wish to thank these swimmers for their enthusiasm and commitment. Keep up the good work!

Lancashire County Championships

17 swimmers representing Blackpool Aquatics descended upon the pools in Liverpool and Manchester over two weekends after qualifying for the Lancashire County Championships.

Many swimmers qualified in numerous events and for all our swimmers personal bests were high on their agenda and overall they didn't disappoint.  Many swimmers attained personal bests with some swimmers just outside of their best times but still excellent swims.

Amongst Blackpool Aquatics swimmers were:

“Gold” medal winners - Annalicia Bowden (50 Back, 200 Back), Adam Fawl (50 Fly, 100 Fly, 200 Fly)
“Silver” medal winners - Britney-Anne Dagger (50 Breast), Sam Secker (50m Back), Adam Fawl (100 Fly (Mens Open),  50 Fly (Mens Open))
Bronze” medal winners - Annalicia Bowden (100 Back), Adam Fawl (200 Ind. Medley, 100 Free, 50 Free)

Lancashires Team

Congratulations to all our swimmers on their achievements especially to our younger swimmers for whom it was their first time competing in such a prestigious event and also to Adam Fawl who although only competed in 8 events came away with fourteen medals after winning the “Gold” title for Junior Champion in the 100 Fly, 200 Fly, 50 Fly,  the “Silver” title for Junior Champion in the 100 Free,  “Bronze” title for Junior Champion in the 50 Free and the most prestigious title of “County Champion” in the open age group of 200 Fly.  Well done to Adam who also gained two national times over the meet.

Another congratulation goes to Hannah Carroll who represented Blackpool Aquatics at a recent competition in Harrogate.  Hannah collected one Gold medal (200m backstroke) and two Bronze medals (50m backstroke and 50m freestyle).  Hannah also attained a number of personal bests.
